The urn
Seven minutes remain of this simulation
where I have laid, restless to study this morning
my hands in the sodden sweetgrass where my skin was moistened
by death. It was the bloom that said don’t go back there, to the darkness within the shroud. The light at dawn wants to listen
to gunshot flair in the morning breeze. This day, you were framed in rage. Teeth gnashed and full throttle.
This day, I was the white heat of guilt, hands cramped
and muddied by the silt of forever. I was blended—
my emotion raw on my voice box, screaming “Why...

Dust and Dusk
In the vale where shadows crept at dusk
A masked man rode with silent tread
His name long lost, his purpose hushed
But death was sure where he was led
The dusty road beneath his steed
Lay barren, cracked, and lined with sin
The whispers told of evil deeds
Of souls he’d sent to winds that spin
He wore a mask of tattered black
That veiled his face from Heaven’s light
And in his hand, the Colt intact
Was quicker than the creeping night
At dusk, he came to deal his trade
Where blood and pride would often cross ...

Danse Putréfaction
Lo! 'Tis a night of foul decay
Where rot clings thick to bone
The air is rank with death's array
And flesh, long dead, has grown
The stage is set, but not for life
A show for cursed eyes
Where things that once were pure of strife
Now crawl beneath the skies
The curtain lifts, yet nothing breathes
No pulse, no living form
Just hollow husks with tangled wreathes
Of sinew, stiff and torn
Their skin, like wax, begins to sag
Their mouths gape open wide
But what commands them is no drag
It is the death inside
...

Kill It, Kill It Now
Once upon a midnight dreary, I sat frozen, weak and weary
Fingers clenched in silent terror at the scratching on the floor
Through the night the sound was creeping, as if something foul was seeping
From a world where death lay sleeping—sleeping just outside my door
"Is it madness?" I did whisper, "Is it something to ignore?"
Still, it scratched—and nothing more
Cold the air grew, thick with rancor, filling me with some great anchor
That weighed my soul in dread and panic, shaking me to my core
Could it be a thing of...

My first job as the undertakers assistant
The firm was called Graves Brothers and stood just off the High St in Bury St Edmunds,
three immaculatly polished Mecedes Benz estates with extended wheel bases stood in a nearby yard. A horse drawn hearse was housed in a small barn, a black cob was hired from a local stables to pull it when required. As a junior partner, I was transport manager but for some unfathamable reason I was knicknamed CD, generaly considered back room staff, "Dont you go skipping off CD we need two cars by 10am, Mr Graves Snr quiped. Not allowed to meet the grieving relatives, just told to nod and look...

Of The Bowels of the Earth
Beneath the stones where silence keeps
In ancient vaults where daylight sleeps
There stirs a breath, a whispered wail
A shiver cold, a visage pale
The earth doth groan in muffled sighs
As something wakes with hollow eyes
A creeping dread, a blackened tide
That stirs the bones of those who died
It slithers slow through cracks unseen
A shadow cast on shadow's sheen
The touch of night, the cold embrace
Of spectres lost to time and space

QUESTIONS ? (8-9-1996; Galveston Island Texas)
questions
it s time for action
last chance
for my strength and hope
have already flown
where is the energy
to move my good
out into this much greater
larger world around
and beyond me here
where i am presently
puzzling over vehicles
in which i can either choose
or not
to continue using
my same old shame and fear based
dysfunctional discretion
or maybe now at much too long last
try something else
all together
completely different
something much more spirit driven ...

Still-steel well
One a day in the past I was a well of fresh water
Once a days in the past I was vastness of life flowing gentle sweet strife
My walls ran deep tapping to the bottoms of the earth touching the living WATERS
The WATERS that came from me gave forth life to those who drank and they could live FOREVER
FOREVER did i yearn to birth and nourish life that was my ENDEAVOR
My walls clean to the bottom holding together what made you be,
I quenched the thirst of many yet when they drank they did not put thought or care to my walls

the maul
the maul understood the man
the dark putrid space inside him
where empathy was supposed to be
there was death there
dreams of bosch
saturn devouring his son
mother violence
like a tide of red ghosts lapping at toes
saying more than words ever could
the maul knew dark things
how it could sate an urge for ill will
how it could make quick work ...

THIS ISN'T ABOUT ME
About what I have been going through since 2021 with different stages of cancers prostate cancer and kidney function and tumors and lung cancer 🙏 This isn't really about me it's about you 🤔 YET my real question to you is WHO DO YOU TURN TOO, when you are lost and confuse and afraid. AS you sit alone within the very confinement of your four walls 🧱 that you call home 🏡, as it is there where you can find yourself in peace with tranquility. For the betterment of your life for it is necessary, to be able to understand, that no day. WILL never be the same...

Death of a Child
The sun had just begun its descent, casting a warm glow over the coast of the Black Sea in Ukraine. The day had been calm, the kind of deceptive tranquility that often preceded a storm. The beach, with its golden sand and gentle waves, was a stark contrast to the turmoil that had taken over the country.
The young girl appeared suddenly, a blue dress fluttering against the backdrop of the shore. She was young, her legs carrying her with the determination of one who still believed in the possibility of escape, of survival.
As she ran, her face was etched...

Existence Unremembered
I view it as a privilege to be present at someone’s passing, to play a part in changing the trajectory of one life and by extension, the lives of many others. These were my thoughts as the angry blast left the muzzle of my rifle, carrying despair in its unalterable path. The woman saw the flash of my powder and a moment of horror registered in her face. I love being present to witness that moment of realization.
At this nameless woman’s most beautiful time in life, her sharing of what was most treasured would be interrupted by a single 223 caliber bullet. The surgical entry...
