Quicksand
Should I take a taxi.
Maybe the subway.
No, I want to fly my way home.
So, take the tubes out of my mouth.
Slip the needle from my vein.
It won't take away my pain.
God take my hand.
Pull me out.
Quicksand.
Don't try and rescue me.
Don't drag me down.
I want to fly in the sky.
Go round and round.
Don't pull me back to
the ground.
They keep tugging on me.
I just want to be free.
This is hell.
Just an empty shell.

Milestones
Surrounded in vibrant sharp beauty
to checkpoint the unknown
Survived experiences devoured
that could’ve sever hip bone
In jungle thorns of life
machete swung at carnivorous dense thicket
Would be insane to run the same path
and more a fool to twice pick it
Resilient in conviction I beat trails
to pave thin fragile success
Fought demons at trials in my wake
asleep woke sweat grapple in stress

to save repeat of heredity queue
S.O.S. walking tight circles to arrive

Last to Leave the Party
You’re the last to leave the party
The last one to catch on
They’re way too kind to kick you out
But they’ve already gone
They’re setting good times on the shelf
They’re turning off their phones
When you’re last to leave the party
You get used to drinking alone
Should’ve known the time would come when you’d get left behind
But you were having so much fun you couldn’t see the signs
They’re looking at their watches saying sorry, gotta run
But it’s not late, and you thought things had only just begun
Time only flies for the person...

I Need Just A Few Moments Here
Almost as important
as that morning coffee
I need a few moments
to feel this body respond
To allow this mind to revel
in pleasurable things
Sometimes I choose to store it
harnessing that powerful energy
for a later time
And sometimes I am weak to the charms
of the imagination and exterior influences,
knowing that pressing need
must be satisfied
before I can tackle the day ahead
I'm still undecided what today will be.
