NEW RULES FOR BOOMERS
("Never trust anyone over thirty." Attributed to Jack Weinburg, political activist)
never trust anyone under sixty
lest you fall victim
to their bewilderment
and desperation
never be offended
when they call you
"young man"
or stoop to lift
the heavy boxes
but accept the kindness
of gods and strangers
with gratitude
and bless them
as though the years
have made you wise
be amazed at the buoyancy
you've earned
by simply living this long
and cherish the gift
of invisibility
...

to their bewilderment
and desperation

when they call you

Vigil
So what is really the goal
in this season of the soul
what is there to do
to truly accomplish
Dressed in wool sweaters
released from the fetters
of the mere busywork
that tries to impersonate life
Curled up upon in my chair
while evading each despair
evading the deep sense
that the clock is running slow
While the heavy brass chimes
keep to their own times
forever disconnected
from my own true calendar
As I count down each day
trying somehow to pray
for any form of forgiveness ...
in this season of the soul
what is there to do
to truly accomplish
Dressed in wool sweaters
released from the fetters
of the mere busywork
that tries to impersonate life
Curled up upon in my chair
while evading each despair
evading the deep sense
that the clock is running slow
While the heavy brass chimes
keep to their own times
forever disconnected
from my own true calendar
As I count down each day
trying somehow to pray
for any form of forgiveness ...

Merry-Go-round
Work and play and sleep
Lather, rinse, repeat
Round and round we go,
where it stops we already know
Six feet under -
walls of dirt and a bed of clay
Once we dreamed we were kings,
but it was only for a day
Beauty and favor are fleeting
Time is in on the joke
Yesterday's hard-won prizes,
today go up in smoke
All love and labor are useless,
the final result is but one
In the end, our bags are empty
The final journey, we travel alone.
Lather, rinse, repeat
Round and round we go,
where it stops we already know
Six feet under -
walls of dirt and a bed of clay
Once we dreamed we were kings,
but it was only for a day
Beauty and favor are fleeting
Time is in on the joke
Yesterday's hard-won prizes,
today go up in smoke
All love and labor are useless,
the final result is but one
In the end, our bags are empty
The final journey, we travel alone.

Shed a Tear
Shed a tear for the inner child
Who died giving birth to the man
Shed a tear for forgotten dreams
That withered as time moved on
Shed a tear for family and friends
Alive now only in memories,
Existing in faded pictures
On a fragile, crumbling page
Shed a tear for an empty heart
That feels nothing but wasted life
Biding its time in sadness,
Waiting for its turn to die
Collect the tears in a paper cup
And pour them on the ground
May roses spring from the bitter drops
May new beauty soon...
Who died giving birth to the man
Shed a tear for forgotten dreams
That withered as time moved on
Shed a tear for family and friends
Alive now only in memories,
Existing in faded pictures
On a fragile, crumbling page
Shed a tear for an empty heart
That feels nothing but wasted life
Biding its time in sadness,
Waiting for its turn to die
Collect the tears in a paper cup
And pour them on the ground
May roses spring from the bitter drops
May new beauty soon...

WHAT MADE YOU STRONGER
It's funny how sometimes that what we once lived through sometimes, has a way of creeping back into our lives when we least expect it. Due to the misconception that we have become blinded by false accusations. But sometimes that is the real reality of our lives basically, as it is and how it feels of what our life is like through our own eyes. For we didn't chose the life we live and still had to learn to adjust, to situations that affects the very roots of our faith and trust in someone else. Who gave us birth into life's existences as young people's of the world, even though we are born...

A Love That Makes Time Travel Possible
The First Poem
Though I am wrapped around you,
With you,
As you drift in
and around
sleep,
That fickle maiden steals you up,
Yet will have nothing to do with me.
I am left alone with my thoughts.
Alone with the street sounds,
leaking through the blinds.
We stay reluctant to acknowledge the daylight
as it beckons on the other side.
Tanzen Lilly, March 20th 2011
The Second Poem
The weight of you...
Though I am wrapped around you,
With you,
As you drift in
and around
sleep,
That fickle maiden steals you up,
Yet will have nothing to do with me.
I am left alone with my thoughts.
Alone with the street sounds,
leaking through the blinds.
We stay reluctant to acknowledge the daylight
as it beckons on the other side.

WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN THE END?
I have walked on all
the Continents in
the world, all 50 States,
and lost count of the
countries I have visited.
I say this not to impress
but to share what I, not
anyone else, have learned.
It hit me right between
the eyes a few years ago
as I heard what a group
of wealthy men said in the
last days in the terminal ward;
soon to face death.
They were all rich and
among the who's who
in society. In their last days
they were asked what,
when looking back really
mattered?
Was it their yachts,...
the Continents in

The New Faces (Old To New)
From old to new did mankind pass,
shedding all the woes gone past;
longing for what they once knew,
breaking down what lay askew.
In setting fire to yesterday's ills
and hoping fate will fortune spill;
we give our lives new meaning, yet
spare ourselves from all regret.
But what did we, in sanity renew --
our fate not lost: how we so grew;
leading ever towards a place
would not today recall its face.
And in that face a ghostly air
to trick the watch; in time repair ...
shedding all the woes gone past;
longing for what they once knew,
breaking down what lay askew.
In setting fire to yesterday's ills
and hoping fate will fortune spill;
we give our lives new meaning, yet
spare ourselves from all regret.
But what did we, in sanity renew --
our fate not lost: how we so grew;

And in that face a ghostly air

Going 'Round in Circles
If man was truly meant
to live in this world,
then why was he born to die?
If death is the end
and not merely a door,
then why should I even try?
If it is but a cliche
to speak of such things,
it’s because no answer rings true
If no answer is true
with no reason to be found,
the problem must lie with my human-centric view.

EVERYTHING AND NOTHING
when you were everything
and i was something
and then nothing
just like that
when i could tell
weeks before you said as much
with him in the next room
waiting
and my old boots
still under the bed
and the rain cold down my neck
and me thinking
goddamn
this is just like a fucking movie
except it hurts
almost more than i can bear
and how i wondered
what i'd done
thinking it was me
turning every memory over
looking for clues
when, goddamn, baby,
it was just you ...
and i was something
and then nothing
just like that
