Overwhelmed
sometimes I can get so overwhelmed
lost in the swirling twirling around
before I know it I’ve chewed up my lip
and it starts feeling like I’m losing grip
on reality, what does it all mean?!
too many thoughts internally competing
lists I’ve made are meant to prevent this
from happening
in the first place
but it’s a pace
I can’t maintain
slowly losing
all I’ve gained
anxiety
wins
again

Plans
Write about making plans,” she said,
and I laughed –
“oh honey, you know I suck at that!”
and she smiles, “exactly…”
This girl understands my poetry.
How it’s always all about the anguish
of making elaborate plans
that I’m not equipped to execute
and perceiving beauty
that I’ll never be able to hold.
How I can languish in the heartache
of imagined futures and friendships and feats
that I am powerless to actualize
and how,
despite the apparent misery,
I still choose this stubborn...
and I laughed –

all of them
big windows in every room
so she could watch deer
grazing outside the kitchen
hands sunk to elbows in sudsy water
humming a hymn under her breath
cleaning up the daily dishes
or observe her beloved black squirrels
scampering around the front yard
as bare feet worked pedals
& fingers expertly landed on keys
organ music creating an Atmosphere
scent of baking bread filling the air

Dead Eyes
tiresome life
weighs heavy
strength to
speak sense gone
all there is
has become nothing
steeped within
darker realms
travelling among
dead eyes
that watch
their surroundings
fear always
more palpable
walking againt
daunting crowds
sticking out
like a sore thumb
icy feeling trickling
down the spine
no deeper meaning
just something spineless existing
less than human
wonder how you breathe

Nature
I used to write about nature
in its truest sense –
the whisper of pine needles
heady scent of moss
rioting dandelions
and hooting owls
The way that dewdrops cling
to the border of kale leaves in the garden
and how the stars tell stories
of my magnificent smallness
I still perceive this poetry
all around me
But I’ve become consumed of late
with the nature of humans
untangling ill-fated attachments
to wounded avoidants
that painful natural cycle
I just can’t break
And...
in its truest sense –

The Tide
Oceanic lust for the tides
That pull me deep into you
Gazing into your indigo eyes
I’m spellbound and imbued
Setting aside all of my pride
Grateful for the view
You are my tour guide
Through the deep seas blue
Arms opening toward the sky
Seeking the hidden truths
Blinded by divine light
I am healed and renewed
As though this is some great design
A spiritual path to pursue
I open my eyes wide
To witness all shades and hues
That pull me deep into you
Gazing into your indigo eyes

Dis-communication - NaPoWriMo 25
I have a desire
a need
to have my words speak plainly,
while my writing whirls on wings,
But
there are damnable times
where my words weave metaphors
to an unresponsive crowd
as my writing
sucks and plunges into accursed
mundane boring dirt,
wherein my frustration
at communication
further fans the muse's fire
when I simply want to exact,
and afterwards trying to
put pen to paper
is met by a roadblock and blankness.
That it becomes only time
and sleep bring salvation
to such muddled...
a need

Ever wonder how many times
Poets, Lyricists……..Novelists
now even in our present day
of online technology – Bloggers
run into (at lightening speeds
of a lame, maimed tortoise)
this bucket of dried out seeds>
I know it’s within me
to spill anything and yet
my spit has become a wee bit
cotton-mouthy, thick
with no muse in my backdrop
to hydrate
maybe it’s time to consume
a shot of bourbon
or 2

when I relinquish the pen to my heart
letting the beat bleed out ink
staining my waiting parchment
crimson script spreading
pools & rivulets capturing emotions & moods
when love raged through gossamer veins
setting the unstained page ablaze
because passion negates any sense of restraint
understand...
I am nothing...
...if not all in
the only time my rhythm truly freed of its cage

an urgent
appointment
with death
since i started
breathing
always walking
a very
thin line
panic grips
my hand
asking me

living inside
the dark doubts
about existing
each day dawns
pistol cocked ready
for when
self destruction
is assured
no bluff
being called here
only russian roulette
new apocalypse
explosive mind games

Captive heart
I just can’t do it today.
Reached into the vault
where poetry should be –
Nothing.
After six days of fitting
"nicely"
into this ultra-conservative
highly reserved
octogenarian-paced life
I’ve had to stay buried
so very deep
I am nearly
unreachable.
Tomorrow, we head home.
And then…
I shall unleash
all my unseemly emotions
move my body freely
with inappropriate exuberance
utter long strings of
filthy cuss words
and unearth the truth
of the poet ...

A Hellhound by any other name - NaPoWriMo 24
What fresh hell is this?
What madness sought this out?
The folly and failure of technology
is in striving to create the impossible
with little to regard
to whether it should be possible.
Robot dogs that carry flamethrowers,
yet another step on the path of dystopia
each step paved with good intentions
and gilded by profit margins
to a new horrible hell on earth.
