I always loved that every storm
Carries with it an edge
Where you can step in,
Or when needed, step out.
I don’t require the eye of a hurricane-
Just the existence
Of a border
I can follow as it moves.
When I need to get wet
And feel it fall upon my skin,
I will step in,
Possibly further, walk about.
But at some point
I’ll find that edge again,
Strip the storm off of my limbs,
Lie back and reflect upon the view.

Dead Language
Dear reader I bring sad tidings,
as the future holds not hope
but the death of taste and art
where the vox populi
continuously murder language
each lazy shortcut
yet another knife into the noble body
that was once revered and worshipped
but will fall
to be trampled and besmirched underfoot
lying unheeded and hidden
beneath the ugly sounds
that blanket the land
a foul pox spread from one to another,
this accursed miasma
so entwined within the general populace
that to be without its insidious taint
to be...

Acrobats and Circus Clowns: Day Twenty-Five
(villanelle)
Just graceful acrobats and circus clowns,
Loquacious lovers hung in trapeze words,
Our tongues do dance, our verses sweet go down.
In paddocks gait, the boys in harness pound
And swish hard tails with every quat incurred,
Just graceful acrobats and circus clowns.
Our fashion leather tight in phrases bound,
In high-heeled whip and scrape and stroke reserved,
Our tongues do dance, our verses sweet go down.
The way we whisper in each other’s sounds,
Our subtle understated...

Fair seas and dread naught
Fair seas and dread naught
but the devastating strike of God.
May the first blood be drawn
by the die hard and unsinkable and fireproof.
May there be a clear sky
for the proud solo warrior
whose close quarters expertise
will see their enemy defeated
in a withering hail of fire
and be unto the foe as though
the very kraken was unleashed.

Things got bad. The king
insisted all palace pillows
be stuffed with feathers

So they were shot down
wings hacked off
like shark or dolphins’ fins
for soup or strange medicines.

the Saudi’s mass-execution this week
of 37 prisoners for ‘spying’, etc

Purdah Precipitation
(Twenty-Five of 30 -- Official DUP NaPo/GloPoWrimo 2019)
Ever notice how soothing falling rain
is when you’re lonely or merely alone?
Sharing comes easy with the precips
no one to make promises not to tell
and hiding behind the dark clouds is
always allowed.
Sometimes I might cover myself
with rolls of thunder lightning my way
when my path appears unclear.
I can never imagine ever being fearful
of the rain accompanied by storm clouds

Lakeside 24/30
Most mornings, the pinched pointer
and thumb opens slowly, stutters
as blinks, relapses.
Rise the pointer and thumb, both curved,
move past the arm, the horizon.
Two pointers and thumbs, both curved
deign the placement of a lake, but first
stress water.
This also denotes the moon, first
framing the face and moving it
above your head. We put ourselves there.
And you move it towards you, as a setting
for a plate. Eat
Awaken, rise, view, eat. A circle-shaped seeing.
A train zooms by- set...

hibernation
I'm taking a nap
I'm not sure how long
at least an hour
I can't go wrong
I'm pretty tired
so maybe two
or three hours
it's just a few
I'm so groggy
I could sleep all day
I think I will
it'll be okay
next morning
I still need more rest
maybe in a week
I'll be feeling my best
I keep hitting snooze
and the months go by
this hibernation
has become my life

Step to it
I don't mind walking,
if there is enough time
I would much prefer to take the scenic route,
although with this nose
I will hardly be able to smell the roses,
there are more efficient modes of travel
but what good are a pair of legs
if you do not stretch them
once in a while?
I say walk,
but in reality
its more of a quick skittering
mixed with a purposeful march
out from some subsection
of the ministry of funny walks.
See I don't mind walking
but I do mind waiting
or even worse, being late, ...

Indiana Worms
Deep in sepulchral tombs
they lie, hidden from prying eyes
the type of treasure
that belongs in a museum,
should a budding archaeologist
be able to worm their way down there,
past rusting machine machines
that spill half desiccated socks
and toasters that with a ping
fling long forgotten crumbs
as weighty microwaves once wedged
threaten to thump down from above
squashing would be intruders
quashing hopes of discovery,
lying behind these traps
are riches beyond compare:
pristine and complete cookbooks
on how...

peace and quiet
I wanted peace and quiet-
the noise stopped but
I still can't turn off the
damned ringing in my ears
or hush the constant whisper of thoughts
telling me things I don't want to hear
I listen hardest in silence
lulled by sound's absence
there's so much more than
simply voices or notes
the music I long for never plays
instead,
I get
unsettling beats
ghost tunes to fill the
emptiness in the air
maybe there's no such thing
as peace and quiet
the noise stopped but
I still can't turn off the

hourglass
Whenever we're together, I'm constantly
watching the clock, dreading the
impending moment when I'll
inevitably have to leave
you and return to my
lonely, dark room.
It's like there's
a glaring
hourglass
keeping watch
to make sure I don't
relax or have too much fun
reminding me that my time is
running out, and my peace will not last.
When the last grain falls, I count the ticking
seconds until I can turn it over again with you
watching the clock, dreading the
impending moment when I'll
inevitably have to leave
you and return to my
lonely, dark room.
It's like there's
a glaring
hourglass
keeping watch
to make sure I don't
