Journal Entry: An atheist's prayer
To the nameless entity that shaped my being and breathed life into this form, I come to you (or it) with a heart of longing and fear. Some say we're fearfully and wonderfully made, crafted with intention and care but I think probably not. I'm only clay in the random hands of nature and fate, given life one day and returned to dust the next.
How are we fired with complex threads of life? Through some divine mystery, we have been blessed with existence and have felt the heat of love's embrace. As humans, we cherish vessels of pleasure but continue on or our paths of aging and...

the ciricle of evil

Christianity is embedded in Europe's mind
alas, it is losing its grip under the influence
of other religions and heathen life
The clerics have nothing to offer, only
platitude and sex abuse behind glorious
brocade and oily words.
Love, charity, and forgiveness are
forgotten in the melee of free expression
We are served a TV that lacks humor
banality seeking to mollify the masses
Comedy is no longer ironic but is about
using filthy words to harvest laughter

The kee beeper and the bee keeper
Yesterday,
I saved a bee from a fountain,
and it stayed in my hand until it was dry enough to fly away.
I would still save them all,
even if they all stung me.

INSERT, POP-UP, REFLUX - PAUSE (12:30am, 7-3-2010; Palm Springs, California)
each day
i live
i see
i feel
i sense
i know
sometimes even
back and forth
a little more
a little less
through days
through weeks
through months
through years
i wake
to the east
spread roots
to the south
dream
to the west
gain strength
insight
wisdom
and power
from the north
when and with
my feet are in the earth
my head in the clouds
my heart in the sea
and my mind
my spirit
and being
are all filled
with radiant
life giving...

Or Else
If you need violence to make religious converts,
you have no real faith,
because you have
no confidence, no comfort
in your own belief
and no way to speak
from your heart
about God.

Mentor
I've never told anyone
that I have a mentor
who deliberately distributes
the philosophy of Buddhism
Someone may criticize
"Aren't you a Christian?"
"Yes, I was, but now indeed
I have converted."
It seems like a hope
I have found a way home
the home I once possessed
but I had long abandoned
Now I can stop drifting
being a Christian or a Buddhist
I would be settled down
in my lifetime pursuing
I know he will be there
patiently waiting...

Buddhist monk
In silent nights,
the Buddhist monk leans over
the ancient sutras,
between the yellowed pages,
he seeks answers
for the desires of his heart.
The moon, serene and silver,
lights up the temple
while he meditates
his thoughts wander
in search of understanding.
He recalls the words of the Buddha
that he taught about suffering
and detachment being like love,
regardless of its shape,
It can be a blessing or a trap.
The monk contemplates the duality of life:
desire and renunciation.

My Castle in the Aire

My Castle in the Aire
When I am in the mood to ponder
I’ve discovered
in the absence of everyday din
at dusk
at dawn
no highway traffic
no owls hooting
or javelinas playful grunts
no orange cardinal
calling out to mate
or howling coyotes
no computers on
or streaming news
for me,
zazen comes easily
naturally
also, it is a boon
when I can’t remember
what I had for supper
the day before

Temporary Delay
I went to build a cairn
but could not get to where I know the rocks are.
Usually, a mandala is constructed
before we act like it never existed.

Weight Loss
Since we don't own anything anyway,
Can't take it with us when we die
Or just go anywhere outside the home,
Sell or give to charity or someone who will use it
Everything that you
do not need
do not use
do not want
that does not bring you joy,
and you will suddenly feel
Lighter,
Lightly,
More like light.
