The Pear Tree

Innocent blue eyes, yellow hair,
Blissful days, not a care,
Dancing merry on her own,
singing songs and laughter,
make believe that she is grown,
a happy ever after,
she does not know, this will not be, the eyes can see her,
She knows no foe, she does not see, she does not fear,
Pretty dress, a little bow, buckle shoes, for daddy’s glee,
Callously discarded by the pear tree,
Mammy sits, desolate, accompanied by tears,
All day long, ‘til it’s late, Singing rings in Daddy’s ears,
Every day, Mammy dies, and Daddy sits beneath the pear tree,
The garden silent, no laughter now, no dancing freely,
Daddy sends Mammy on a trip to see their daughter,
Daddy sits beneath the pear tree, and Mammy lies there…
