Somewhere In This World

We’ve never met before
But I already see past your face
So kiss your hand and let it go
For all the world to know for certain

You’re a breath or lifespan away
But the blood won’t move
I’m not getting older
So all I can do is imagine

I wish I was with you
In your grandfather’s old house
Writing poetry in the dust
Making love in our heads

In the night, we’d wait for day
Licking the touch, feeling the taste
Searching in our hearts for that something
We lost too long ago

We’d walk along ghost highways
Never dreaming of a destination
Since we’ve always been there
Right under the skin

Then we’d sit down on a cloud
And I’d poke your brain
With such morbid curiosity
You’d do the very same

We would die with some ease
Because I knew you
And you knew me
For a while in this life

But we’ve never met before
Can’t put a name to a face
So I’ll kiss the air and think of you
Somewhere in this world, I’m certain
