THE FREE MAN
the free man
given to the earth
walks on in silence
untouched alone
opaquely absorbed
in his odyssey
i want to follow
and speak with him
but fear i would
violate some
pristine heaven
or wilderness
he has found
his ears
must be filled
with the sound
of heartbeat
and ocean
eyes lit and alive
with the art of
the passing ground
life pulled deeper
into appreciation
with every finding step
heart stretched out
wide over
each days horizon
his only path
a feathered staff
and endless miles
of imagination
each footprint
and stone
a word of beauty
written down on
sand in time
by god and man
and tide
given to the earth
left behind
for the free man
to walk upon
in silence
alone but for his
raven shadow
and volcanic soul
quietly erupting
in joy for the sun
and all it
is touching
the peace
of the sky
the poem
of all life
the gleam
in his eyes
and his restless
feet walking
sculpting
