Self Examination with Slight Recrimination

Dedicated to - Know Thyself - for reminding me that the "who" is just as important as the "why"
 
I took apart my clockwork head
To see what makes me tick
Examined every nut and bolt
The large- the small - the thin and thick
Tinkering with every single cog
From large to lilliputian
Searching among mechanical stuffs
For spiritual solution
Springs and axles
Sharp toothed gears
All in gleaming array
Tight wound springs of hopes and fears
Hardwired into my days
I started in to probing
With fingers elephantine
To try then to uncover
The part that was divine
But it seemed the more I delved
Amidst the mechanism
The less trace I seemed to find
Of any meta/physical schism
And when my head was empty
with parts strewn in all directions
I still had failed to make it seems
Any amalgomous connections
Between my waking and my dreams
So I reassembled as best I could
My mechanism mental
Except for a screw or two
Which I assume were incidental
The findings proved inconclusive
For it seems I've failed to glean
Whether I am the body electric
Or the ghost in the machine
