A countryside of sorts
arrives in a flurry on the fifteenth floor
finches, mating pairs.
Flitting from balcony to concrete balcony
darting, diving, weaving
through paint peeled drab, playing
catch-up on the wing.
when they alight outside the window
their light dissolves the tragedy of towers.

For some reason, the image of the finches on the windowsill called to mind William Morris, a 19th century artist who designed textiles inspired by nature. That aside, this poem is strange and profound, like an etching, which creates through its straightforward lines a most beautiful scene, pregnant with soft melancholy.

it's so rich (and still light) with just that little snippet of contrast - nature vs. concrete jungle. interesting read. [:
