For my father, who passed away today.
A shepherd will take you
Far away from yourself
Promise me I promised you
I’d dare not forget
And if I could’ve said one word
It would’ve been love
But life is one big too late
And for that, I’m so sorry
I can picture the weary heart separate
From the tired soul
Every second now
Every normal day after
The eyes will be stained
For what never was
What I never knew
What we never had
But I’ll make up for it
When the sun sets
I’ll meet you right between
And we’ll wait there for a while
A shepherd will take you
Far away from yourself
Promise me I promised you
I’d dare not forget
And if I could’ve said one word
It would’ve been love
But life is one big too late
And for that, I’m so sorry
I can picture the weary heart separate
From the tired soul
Every second now
Every normal day after
The eyes will be stained
For what never was
What I never knew
What we never had
But I’ll make up for it
When the sun sets
I’ll meet you right between
And we’ll wait there for a while
