Snowflakes On My Tongue

One by one, little white dots fall on my tongue
Like snowflakes on a cold December afternoon
I give me something to numb my pain
Because happiness is a drug on backorder
Swallowing them like a kid with candy drops
Wash them down with a couple swigs of Jack
Ah yes! That oh so familiar surging in my veins
I feel indestructible; I can take your blows now
You thought you’d break my heart? I just erased it
Filling the cavity with feelings of temporary euphoria
Carrying them in my pocket around like a Pez Dispenser
One to wake up, and one to fall deep asleep
One to take away pain, and one to keep me sane
I wish it didn’t have to be this way, but it does
Synthetic happiness in a capsule, swallowed whole
Without them I’m drowning in a sea of my tears
The angels aren’t here, like lifeguards with a life preserver
Sinking on this titanic depression, clinging for life
Let hell open up and swallow me whole!
So here I am on this shitty winter morning
Catching these white snowflakes on my tongue.
