THE LINE CROSSED
I APPROACHED the funny looking man - not knowing the line crossed
at first the aberration of incongruity
across the street I walked, each step beyond reality
When a flower loses its petals is it still a flower?
when the sun sinks and the moon rises is still a day?
when the color fades and all is grey is this still for real?
I approached the funny looking man - now knowing the line crossed
at last the surrealism of congruity
I crossed the street and stopped, last step into infinity
No face, not a semblance of humanity bore his presence
clearly I have seen the future albeit minutes before me
and creation works three steps forward for those two behind
I reproached the scary looking man -- not wanting to know any more
at last the horror of insanity
I lost the street behind me and stopped, I slid into eternity
