Insomniac

You race through my mind
at a pace I cannot reach.
I long to catch you,
stop this invasion!
But you're too fast.
I close my eyes and wish you away,
though you'll have none of it -
keeping my brain from shutting down
you rob me of my sleep,
destroy my mind with your impurities,
wrecking my thoughts with malevolence.

Clutching tightly to the pillow beneath my face
eyes forced shut, I wish you away.

Robbing me of my escape from the world,
my reality - and you -
I know, the only chance of freedom for me
is Death.
