12 Steps

Just tonight I saw the call come in.
It's an inmate call, where to begin.
You said hi honey  it's me .
first time in weeks I'd have to agree.
You said your sorry and your glad its ended.
I just pray your sentence is  treatment or at least suspended.
Well this is the best of three ways this  disease ends.
Jails institutions and death, on luck that depends.
We've all been praying , for you to be safe and sound.
Then you get arrested , and held underground.
I'm so worried all night its making me sic.
Arraignment day,  Two charges dropped only one will stick .
No bail  ,just  pretrial release.
You get to come home my tears cease.
Now I'm wondering what will you choose.
Keep running , like you've got nothing to loose.
Or surrender & take your first step in this fight.
One is real easy when the Feds are ready to indite.
They suggest a meeting every night.
Tired  , broken now powerless to..?
Yes you are now on to step two.
On to the second , cus we can't do this alone.
Can you Believe in god and pick up the phone.
Hoping so he's got a lot to give.
If you don't, you'll be lucky to live.
Step 3s real easy if you do it just right.
I do it all day and most of the night.
I just say fuck it you see.
I can't do this alone if I want to be free.
Now on to 4 its not one to ignore.
Recognize the past , then 5 opens the door.
Become willing in 6 then ask in 7.
just relieving these sins that keep me from heaven.
Like bottom I don't think heavens  a place.
You can't see it & there is no race.
I know what bottom felt like .
But these 12 steps to heaven are a hell of a hike.
8 now making that list.
9 no saving face , praying for just a little grace.
10s so easy just admit when I'm wrong
Hell I been doing that all along.
But making amends is no easy thing.
All those hurts and the pain it will bring.
11 now asking for gods will.
No more running chasing a thrill.
