cracked parment days

I graffitied the old bent fence
with a spray bottle full of water
a sad ephemeral artwork
a non-existent prayer to the universe

I’ve been dreaming of lying
at the bottom of the ocean
in a spagettified tangle of rotten flesh
and dismembered sinews
unable to claw my way through the gravitational blue
to the dawning sky above

And I wonder where you are
wonder what you’re doing
wondering how you’re getting through
these cracked parchment days
when memories and regrets take over
all your higher brain functions
until all that remains is a hallucination of yesterday

I graffitied the old bent fence
with a spray bottle full of water
a sad ephemeral artwork
a non-existent prayer to the universe

Because I only see you in my daydreams
a pale ghost to the man you really are
so strong and deep and as fragile
as a spindled spider in the palm of my hands

Your heart is breaking
while my heart lies numb
and I can’t repour the void with empty beer cans
as a cloud of smoke shimmers like glass air between us
on opposite sides of the pacific

And so I sit in silence, listening to medication on repeat
wondering what you’re doing
wondering how you’re getting through
these cracked parchment days
that’ll evaporate tomorrow
like a sad ephemeral artwork
a non-existent prayer to the universe
among the decaying dreams that waken me
scared and pining for a memory of your yesterday smile
