Image for the poem So...

So...

You think you know her
but her enormity of moods
proclaims you do not
that you could never know
as she tickles your toes on the beach
where the next dead whale will founder

Without notice
she may gather her skirts
and rush upon you in a rage
piling high the lump in her throat
drowning the fires
from some quake below

So,
could you ever feel safe
with your hotel balcony
on the third floor
knowing once she swallowed mountains
and all the world
grew fins
