For Shaunda
My darling girl what can I say
To try to take your pain away
There are no words to simlpy heal
The kind of agony that you feel
But if it helps meditate on this
That from now until the final kiss
Of death upon your tortured head
Those days and nights of former dread
Try though it be so hard please try
To forgive and pardon days gone by
Not for his sake but for yours alone
Then your life you’ll once more own
When you do you maybe you’ll see
That you’ve been a prisoner of he
Who vilely took your youth away
And that you suffer every day
For things you cannot change no alter
And so in pain you daily falter
Far easier said than done I know
Almost impossible to let go
But once you release and forgive
Then at last you’ll start to live
The life you were created for
And not the one you so deplore
I know this ain’t a clever rhyme
But hope you’ll come to see in time
The love this poet offers you
To try to heal and see you through
God bless you.

Only then I realised the prisoner had been me.” Anon
