I HAVE GONE BACK
(Another post breakup verse told as if by a woman.)
I have gone back to my maiden name
And the place, pre-marriage, whence I came.
Husband divorced – caught him at his game
With that woman he called his “old flame”.
I don’t want a failed marriage’s shame
Or hear tart hints I might be to blame
By making him flee to that bitch-dame.
My view of life will not be the same,
‘Thanks’ to him who marriage didn’t tame.
Until my mind has a better frame
I’m not up for a new man to claim –
Till, perhaps, when my feet get too lame
To stand on without a Zimmer frame!
