The Good Ol' Days
How hard it is to navigate the currents of these days
When most every word sails upon cold, electric waves
No quills to dip, no stamps to press
Christ, even typing is done with our thumbs!
How can true meaning not succumb
In this futuristic haze?
It always was, and not long ago
A man could thrive by his wits and his tongue
Articulation would separate the savvy from dumb
Now, all you need is LOL
'Cuz we all sound the same, be ye prince or ye bum
No love letters written, no sweet songs to be sung
The world's moved far beyond all that!
Just give us a tune that's easy to hum
From the pretty face of a nicely breasted
Imbecilic brat
"By honor, for god, at your service, i swear"
Sagacity, valor, charity and grace
"YOLO. Where's the party? Hook up. Who cares?"
Warm regards replaced with a simple :)
I was never there
But i long for the time
I might unsaddle my stead
And be inspired a rhyme
As sunny rain mists a rainbow behind
A golden crested stream
And nest with a lass,
both honorable and kind
Who's flesh's beauty's surpassed
By none under sun
'cept what's to be found
In her heart and her mind
What's happened to the gentleman
With intentions pure,
An iron fist,
And the innocence of a child?
Most men i meet are simple boys
Acting hard and wild.
They see a movie of the streets,
And act out hard and wild.
Born and bred a nice house in the hills,
Still, they'll act out hard and wild.
They'll hit on every girl they meet,
Gathering phone numbers in a pile.
But, were they to meet true savagery,
They'd cower like a child.
Where have all the ladies gone?
The guardians of our noble race,
The shields for daughters and sons.
What's to become of this city we've built?
If not for the lady, what power's to face
The wicked stupidity of simple men?
How much sin can we store?
Where's gone human guilt?
How could this not be,
all this silly frivolity,
A Roman preface
To the inevitable barbarian end?
