Out There
I look up,
Out of myself and out of the sky, into you,
To see a universe painted with stars,
Its canvas seared with the paint of tender hands.
I look up,
Beyond all I know,
A vast spread of nothingness that is so something
Before my eyes artwork,
Put so brilliantly across reality.
I look up and think.
After the farthest star has lent its light,
In the distance,
Between everything and beyond.
I wonder if you are proud.
In all the night sky’s greatness
And the overwhelming suction of your heart’s universe
As it calls my name
I look up.
I look up to see your heart
And your mind’s intricate parts.
I see beauty and order.
I see that every star has its light
And every night, its royalty.
No two times are the same when I look.
But even when darkness mingles with light,
I learn that every one moment has his place
And every dreaming star, his glory and grandeur.
Sometimes when I look up
I feel as if I’m in your gaze,
Peering straight into your eyes, an inquisitive child,
Reading your heart as you read mine.
Those times, I feel I know what you are thinking.
As you look down at us you wonder
How we could be so different from the vast order.
A little taste of chaos on a little stone in the air,
Floating.
We think we are everything
And fail to realize that we are a grain in everything.
How does the artwork seem from your perspective?
I see my dream every time I look;
Order; the point at which we meet you;
But I think, “Are we yours?”
This earth you made for your glory?
My dream is you, but are we your dream?
I think again about whether you really are staring back,
Reading my heart as I look for yours out there beyond the sky.
Am I your dream? Do I make you smile?
What do you think of me?
I smile and get up off the grass.
