Image for the poem A thousand fires

A thousand fires

A thousand fires
Oh my heart, what will you ever do to undo the done?
With your heart set on fire, raw passion awake from so deep
How can you possibly stand that close to the sun?
When I inflame you I feel awkward and contrite
I want to gift you my intensity and energy but you baulk so
I’m afraid you will burn up and turn to ash during the night
I really can’t stand to not take the risk, so I persist
I’m afraid I may harm you, burn you, consume you
But I’m torn and broken even as I long for your kiss
A thousand kilometres keeps us apart
A thousand fears, A thousand yearnings
Your body will burn, I’ll shield your heart
I wait with the heat of a thousand fires
And pray that the day never comes
When as the music ends
I warm my  hands
By your pyre
Don’t
Burn
OK?
I care about you my heart…
