A lovers lament

A lovers lament

The wings work so hard, but they're damaged and flawed,
again I falter, tumble down and enter the void,

the abyss looks so sweet for life can be cruel.
The pain is intense and the world smashes me down.

But still I believe despite my worst times.
A destiny of doing for so little worth,

such a hard road of penance, a flight into self.
Don't ride on my trip, it's dark, it's obtuse,

the one thing I lack would repair me of course.
And I lament even as I soar level again and

Stare into the light, for all that remains,
is my life, my broken muse, pain

ultimately, just me and release.
I'm cut, torn, wounded, rent

The world fades from view,
every year just a little more until

in an instant it's gone.
Free and whole I will fly so high,

For I, just like
you, in faith, will never die.

If only I could truly fly.
I yearn to
be free.
