Angst in a Nutshell

Growing up is not an easy thing to do.
Through each stage of life that comes to pass,
Through some harsh judgments and people staring at you.
Some days, you wonder how you could ever last.

Can hardly make up your mind from what ice cream you want to what you wear.
Definitely mixed up about who you want to be.
Some try to help the process by doing something crazy such as getting a piercing or dying their hair.
Though (God only knows who it'll be) I just want to be me.

Sometimes I wonder what young generations did to deserve this.
From the pressures from life, society, to be pretty, to be the smartest, to be thin.
To all the awkwardness of growth spurts, painful shyness, or our first kiss.
Cliques aren't very fun either, especially the critics who decide if you're out or in.

But I've been told it's also one of the better times of your life.
Some many opportunities open up to you,
You could be an artist, a lawyer, a writer, the possibilities fill you up like the warmth  of a light.
Eventually, you have to recognize what you want to do.

You're also allowed to be carefree, have fun and have those moments you look back on and think "Oh GOD I did that seriously!?"
Trying to figure out how to make it out there, and improve yourself for the better.
Then sometimes you get an inkling of maturity that appears mysteriously.
So I'd enjoy the time I have because these days won't last forever.

So ignore judgment, stay yourself and stay smart.
Dance, laugh, play, read, do whatever you'd like (within reason)
Enjoy every experience from dances, to time with your friends, and each broken heart.
Because all of these teach you a lesson as solid and continuous as the changing seasons.
