THAT BOOK

(This was one of a number of imaginary poetic thank-you letters from grateful readers of "The Joy of Sex", which celebrated 40 years in print this year.  I realise "that book" could also easily be "Fifty Shades of Grey".  Any resemblance to real life situations is coincidental!)

I invited my intended back to my flat,
Making sure ‘that book’ lay around to look at.
Into a grin the lips on his face did curl
With the words: “Didn’t know you were THAT kind of girl!”
He couldn’t believe his blinkered eyes,
It was a revelation and a great surprise.
When I told him how I wanted him in my life,
He got on his knee and asked me to be his wife.
To words I had waited for I said “Yes!” with ease,
And used the book to act out some fantasies.
We spent some times in our betrothal
With plenty of clothes removal.
Just in time came our wedding night
When we did bodily unite!
I gained my husband through that book –
A good man-catching hook and crook!
