Release

Outstretched
Open
Pleading,
Drenched in the rain
Desperate for hope
To wash away the stain

But the pain,
The anger
The trying betrayal,
Held tight
Burned
Egged on the fight

The scream
Let loose –
Rage,
Vengeance
Revenge,
Shattered by loss
Fury to avenge

He had to hurt
As much a she,
The hate
Wrung tight
Ensnared them both
With savage bite

She crumpled to the ground
Desolate
She knew she’d been fooled,
Her need for freedom
Allowed her temper to cool

The hate had lied
Deceived her
Into a cage,
Allowed her to drown
In the tears of her eyes
Where her wings were bound
Unable to fly

But could she let go,
Break the pattern
Of chains
Forgive him for this?
Could the wounds of her heart
Be so easily dismissed?

The scream tore loose,
As knees hit the ground
Arms thrown out
In silent surrender
A plea to the Father
The almighty mender

She was ready,
To claim what she knew
Acknowledge the truth –
That setting him free
Meant her freedom too
