Cain and Abel

Cain dips his toes into untainted water;
frozen rivulets shimmer as they turn into lead.
Sand paper teardrops stain cheeks cherry red,
rock gives way to create a crater in his wake.
Charred and crumbling,
the sides predictably peel back to reveal
a thousand betrayed eyes he knows so well.

His conscience preaches psychotic
visions of the earth bleeding;
plants sagging down
to kiss their death beds in gratitude.
God gifted Cain graciously with insanity,
lulling him into forgetting with
a tenderly enforced trance.

Listening to the gentle hisses
that had passed through generations,
brought dormant flames to life.
Giving into temptation was blissful.
Clouds caved in; angels danced
to the spirit of brotherly loathing.
Envy is tragic.
