Image for the poem Empath

Empath

The haunting picture is from Alway's Caliban's contest.

I was so beautiful in my former life,
another time it seems. It couldn't
possibly be this life.

I shone like rubies, diadems laden with jewels most exquisite
my eyes held the stars of the heavens
I radiated strength and love for the humanity
that I so willingly chose to empath for

But I am tired. Oh so weary. I cannot
remember ever seeing the light that once
shone in my eyes

No more can I take the pain given to me by others
I live to save them from the dark
Yet the dark is taking over my very soul

Slake my weary mind for I am unable to lift my head
my load is heavy with the injustice of others
and my bones break from the shear weight of their plight

Is it my time? Can I go?
Oh Lord of dark and light I beseach you
reward me for the faithful path I have chosen
reward me with the sleep I so need
the sleep of oblivian

have I not fullfilled my promise to take on the sins
the shame, degradation, hopelessness and horror
of a humanity set upon by the the shameless one
the demon who comes down to earth
shining like an angel of lumina and sunlight

please take your hand and wipe my impertinance
from the face of this place called earth
take me away from this life of mine
the anticipation of all unwanted thoughts
and memories is more than I can bear
It consumes me down to my very soul
