Daddy's Home

Daddy’s home with a drunken roar
Calling mummy a filthy whore
Strikes her head against the wall
Child aghast watches her fall
Please daddy no the youngster cries
As vainly mummy try’s to rise
The little girl is only ten
She's seen this time and time again
Daddy please just stop and think
It’s only ‘cos you’ve had a drink
Child is slapped and thrust aside
Leave her alone the mother cried
Renewed fury at his wife
Swears one day he’ll take her life
It’s payday, Friday night again
Most weeks the pattern's just the same
Inadequate man gets blind with drink
Attacks those he loves and doesn’t think
About his child seeing this shame
Everyone but he’s to blame
Renewed attack child can stand no more
Throws herself upon the floor
Wraps her body round mummy’s head
Please daddy please kick me instead
He roughly drags the child away
Semi conscious mother lies at bay
Blows and kicks rain down upon her
Brutalised by this man of no honour
Neighbours call the cops again
When they arrive it's very plain
This time mummy won’t arise
And late that night the mother dies
The father lies to save his hide
But he’ll spend many a year inside
The child taken to a care home screaming
A nightmare with no end to the dreaming
What was her sin? What was her crime?
This sweet young soul lost for all time.
