Comfortably Numb

The embers burn bright like sun shining through a cloud
The ash rains down like snow, gently muffling.
The scent of it intoxicating everything it touches.
As you gently breathe it in,
Fire coming closer to your lips
Playing Russian roulette as it gets closer with each breath
But you don’t care.
You can see it in your eyes as they glaze over
You don’t mind if it burns you
The ash snow gently litters your clothes
Your mouth full of smoke with each exhale
It softly rolling off your tongue and into the atmosphere
Escaping everything that goes on here
You wish you were that smoke
Escaping everything that hurts you
Hurts you bad enough to pick up such a dirty habit
Wishing so bad to be the gentle ash cloud
Flying up and then softly dissipating
Gone
Just gone
You sit there now, filter in hand,
No embers left and it all goes to your head
You don’t move, just stare off dreamily into space
Feeling nothing, just letting your mind wander
As you sit there feeling happy for once while you’re
