I Wish
I wish I had a better memory
so I could write and recite to you in bed
after you took me to heaven
and in the afterglow all thoughts enter my head
I wish I could really make you feel
even if for one night that you confirmed
one man could totally satisfy you
and monogamy is the fire that burned
I wish that as you were about to seduce him home
that your mind flowed to what we did
you accepted that I could fill the hunger
or so eloquently pop your lid
But the reality is unlike my parents' minds
able to recite from elementary to their graves
I can't remember what I wrote yesterday
my words aren't retained like the roll of the waves
And as John Mayer crooned in Daughters
there was a lot of baggage before I came around
so first we need to build a solid foundation
or the walls will come tumbling down
There may be something in you
that all my best may not overcome
a true tragedy if in insisting
it left us both so Comfortably Numb
so I could write and recite to you in bed
after you took me to heaven
and in the afterglow all thoughts enter my head
I wish I could really make you feel
even if for one night that you confirmed
one man could totally satisfy you
and monogamy is the fire that burned
I wish that as you were about to seduce him home
that your mind flowed to what we did
