She of The Sea
She of the Sea
By Ashraf Hamed Junior

"I remember it well, the last time I saw her, before I faded into the sea"
I was walking on the beach
I couldn't reach
The mermaid laying on the rock that perched itself above the sea
She looked at me and smiled
She had the most beautiful eyes
Eyes of blue of the sky
She had the most magnificent tresses
Tresses of the cold water that touched my feet
She had the most gorgeous pelt
Pelt of a pearl that was born inside a clam's body
She had the drop dead beam
It made me feel warm inside and happy
I walked through the water toward her, but she fled into the water.
I followed her, until I couldn't touch the floor anymore. Then she appeared.
She swam toward me singing "Da da da da da da"
The music was in perfect harmony
She got closer, we touched
My heart clenched
We kissed, she pulled me under
Deeper and deeper until we where at the bottom
Holding me under, I couldn't, she couldn't, and I was caught
A siren she was!
I was under…She smiled and said "You'll be a part of my collection" with a grin
I looked over; there were about 10 or more perfect skeletons lying on the ocean floor
I was hers
I was done
I died away into the sea
"I remember it well, the last time I saw her, before I faded into the sea"
