Free the Beast
It's there, it's pounding
deep in me, you see..
The need to feel,
to free the beast
That consumes this pain inside me
What was there,
seems to never be..
for us to be together..
I thought we had the key..
I thought I was your woman..
I thought I was your pleasure..
I thought you would be here..
to love me forever..
Life is fucked up
and never right to live..
I try and I cry for you..
I give all that I can give..
for someone who holds back..
who will never claim the prize..
to be my soul-mate, my lover..
how can you look in my eyes..
and say you love me completely
How can you tell me such a lie..
The best dream you gave me,
was the one where I die..
I'll lose this pain and torment
that pushes you away..
I just wish.
I hope,
I cry for the day..
that you will ask my soul
to never part your way..
But you choose to never ask me
to let me lead the way
to repair what they have broken
and show you it's OK
to love me completely
because I will never hurt you
I'm the one who loves you
that begs for you to hold me
and takes these painful words from me!!

If you put Bob Marley's "Could You Be Loved" before Free the Beast and then read out loud and immediately after play Tracy Chapman's "Give Me One Reason" then it flows like a live concert.

Interpreted literally (the punji-stick pitfall of poetry, literal interpretation. Fuck it, Indiana Jones would take this risk, I'll give it a go!) that phrase blasts kaledioscopically:
First layer of vision is a couple having shared dreams, lucid, astral, creating together. His paint brush is flaccid. Maybe it's lack of imagination. Maybe he's just emo. She creates more, dominates the stage. O.K. like the bloody corrall, but the one time he creates a dream with a beginning, middle and end it's some lame epic involving her dying. Probably borrowed from What Dreams May Come, just to tell a redemption story for a lover who's just not clicking with it. Other layers of vision from interpreting that line literally include being sent a dream and finding written ones, pithy blather.
A person can't love someone else completely unless they let that someone else be the key to them. This poem rocks.

I really love your views on all this. I reread it over and over again and feel very proud that you would give me the kudos for my work like this. Thank you very very much for letting me feel so good about something that was a bad time in my life. Just goes to show,that good is in bad things.
