I've Been Here Before.

I did it again,
I realised.
There she was,
Holding court,
Mature, sophisticated,
Guiding us,
And my mouth hung open,
Jaw on the floor,
I'm looking at her,
Her blue eyes,
I've seen them somewhere before.

She commanded the room,
Owned it in her stance,
She tested us all,
Quizzed us,
In that unbelieving tone,
That I've heard somewhere before.

I sit,
I stare, hypnotised,
By her words,
Her meanings,
Her explanations,
Her capitulations,
In mannerisms,
That I know from somewhere before.

I won't do it again,
Not another crush,
No more losing class time,
Because I'm distracted by looks,
No more daydreams,
They hurt too much last time,
When it all went wrong.
I tell myself
'Eyes down, concentrate,
Don't get carried away,
It'll NEVER happen...'

But I told myself that before.
