I Can't Stand Tea
We sit at the table,
Drinking tea,
I can't stand tea.
She should know that by now.
It's too sweet.
We sit together,
But apart,
Bodies saying it all.
She's leant back, away from me,
Only looking me in the eye fleetingly.
And I keep thinking,
I really don't like tea.
I lean in,
Gaze at her, watch her lips twitch,
For a small joke, nothing more.
For my teasing,
That she still doesn't know,
I despise tea.
The more I concentrate on the damn cup,
The more I see the similarities.
Between us and the drink we're sharing.
Tea gets cold really quickly.
It's overly sweet, almost as if it's pretending,
It's supposed to calm you,
But there's more caffeine in it than coffee,
It's agitating, it's upsetting...
And now, I know more than ever,
I can't stand Tea.
I never will.
Drinking tea,
I can't stand tea.
She should know that by now.
It's too sweet.
We sit together,
But apart,
Bodies saying it all.
She's leant back, away from me,
Only looking me in the eye fleetingly.
And I keep thinking,
