RED SILK SHEETS AND LINGERIE
RED SILK SHEETS AND LINGERIE
(Inspired by picture accompanying an earlier poem seen on DU yesterday. Majors on colour red and its narrative implies a coming collision.)
"Red means danger", they say of signs,
But I'm caught up in your designs.
That silk sheet and your lingerie
Sure weren't meant to deter me.
By the drink that I had taken
My good-bad sense is overtaken.
Like a driver out of control,
Risking parting of body and soul.
No space, time, sense to swerve away,
I crash headlong into the hay,
Where you're sure quick to swoop on me
And nurse me with intimacy.
What clothes I have you pull off me,
Like I'd arrived in A and E.
Responding, careless of my form,
I strip 'nurse' of her 'uniform'!
