Darkened Beauty
As it stands there looking at me,
I can’t help but think how beautiful,
how radiant he is.
But there is more to it than that.
Its darkened beauty lures you in
and its eyes capture your soul;
Your soul will be his to take.
He strides closer, and the dagger
upon his forehead shines clearer.
Slowly, taking his time, because he knows
I will not be able to escape.
The eyes… they are now malicious.
The teeth now grind in anticipation.
…I can feel its breath now, and
for the first time, I feel fear.
My legs are consumed with it as they shake
My heart is beating as fast as it can… until
he is close enough… he raises his majestic head,
and with a swipe… I am the color red.
It spreads across my front, it takes up my white.
I wipe at it, but that only hurts… I am speechless;
I am in pain… so I gaze up into his eyes,
his big beautiful black orbs, and I see hunger in them.
He waits for me… he waits until I die…
and when I finally fall on the ground at his hooves,
he gives one snort, and bends down.
It is then that I see the sharpened teeth, and then
… I feel them. They tear and tear.
The pain is so much… but it continues to rip.
It is when the pain begins to ebb that I realize my mistake.
The blackened beauty was mine to see,
Perhaps mine to take… but that would never happen,
because the creature before me was not meant for me.
It was meant to be free, and I got in its way;
Now I pay the price, even though I don’t want to.
The next time I live, I’ll then know the treasure
that each freed being holds in their soul.
I can’t help but think how beautiful,
how radiant he is.
But there is more to it than that.
