Blackberry Picking

Your blood mixes with
Blackberry guts
Dripping from cuts on your wrists and your fingers
You'd hoped that the fruit
Would cover up that you
Still, just don't want to be here

But I can see in your eyes
All of the birds and the flies
Swimming around in reflections
The pain that you drink
Dives down just too deep
And the blackberries understand

There's clouds in your mind
And your lungs and your toes
Filling you up with sweet rain
But when the weather subsides
Your blackberry eyes
Have bled and learned to change colour

I can see in your eyes
That you're sick if the lies
And it's painting false smiles on your lips
The blackberry bucket is full
And the thorns are dislodged
Into your body and skin

To water your thorns
Tears are reborn
And turn into blackberry streams
Your richest pleasures
Are not quite treasures
But more of a dark letting go

I can see in your eyes
You can no longer try
And want me just to let go
This last time you rest
Your blackberry test
Will be to just whisper, 'goodbye'
