Without Wings or Horns

 Religion tells us heaven awaits,
As long as we blindly follow;
The tenants of their faith.
The clergy tells us,
They can absolve us;
Of any inhumane action.
If we truly repent
or in God’s name we have acted.
~
We are told,
That only they hold the truth.
And all of the others,
Are following a lie.
So don’t ask any difficult questions,
Don’t ask why.
Just have faith in their words of God,
Don’t open your mouth or eyes.
~
I say “listen to your own heart”
“Open your mind and your eyes”
Find your own truth,
Don’t be fooled by beautiful lies.
We aren’t Angles or Demons,
But we can all be truly humane.
If we can find compassion within our hearts,
For all of the family of Man.
