An Unachievable Dream

Sometimes I wonder
If life is truly fonder
On the other side.
This is a question worldwide.
Is the grass greener?
Or are the people meaner?
Is civilization civilized?
Or is division still authorized?
Let’s take a journey to the other side.
I will be your guide.
Turn to your right.
You will see two children flying a kite.
One is black and one is white.
Here everyone is color blind.
All of mankind is entwined.
Look there!
See the young man treat his elder with tender loving care?
Here there is no crime!
Isn’t it sublime?
The peace and serenity.
The pleasant amenity.
This other place is quite divine.
We must now head back, but don’t whine!
As you awake from your dream
Try not to scream.
When you return to harsh reality,
Complete with extreme brutality.
The other side is unfeasible.
Only in your dreams is it achievable.
Because, you see,
Civilization is not as civilized as humans decree.
And so it seems
The other side will remain merely a figment of our dreams.
