SHADOW

I gently picked up the Shadow,
  lying crumpled on the ground.
And found it to be mine,
shocked I rocked it in my arms.
My insubstantial faithful,
  since birth till Lucifer called.
No ambulance came screaming,
  or guardian of the law.
Hospitals cast their own sterile shadows
   tired, battered though it was
mine not to be considered?
No undertaker, no wreath, a flower or two?
The burning ghat fires impotent.
   No registration of Shadow deaths.
I felt the umbilical cord of my existence part.
   I was utterly alone.
Perhaps it was all a Dream Shadow?
Or a Shadow Dream in blank verse?
