Evening Climb

With late afternoon
just settling in,
we crested the hill
our ascent to begin,

The mountain before us
as steep as can be,
without needing ropes
and climbing quite free.

The tiny chalk bags
on our hips gave us grip
her traveling ahead
as I followed her lips.

Free climbing nude
an idea I liked
but I didn't think through
the scene as we hiked.

By summit in evening
with wine on our minds
we camped on the ceiling
and let it unwind.

And there on the roof
of the world in the rough
we took to our travels
by vining the buff.

As fierce as our climb
into clouds above all
the miracle was
we never did fall.

So great was our journey
to places within,
we crested the hill,
an ascent to the end.
