Deep into the darkest night
looking for myself
looking through the darkness
for my soul
someone told me I'd find it there
not wanting the sun to shine
needing the darkness for my personal journey
needing every hour, every second there

where am I
the truest part of myself is lost
lost in a starless abyss

My experience is some people don't even want to look, regardless of whether their souls are in the dark or the light.

You are right. We descend (into oneself), sometimes quite a while, before we can ascend, and then it is only episodic, fragmentary. You are a good poet (perhaps use "darkness, etc.) to explicitly, but you say what needs to be said. Thanks.
