In This Life

In This Life...
I am owed ....nothing.

Though my memories of past
transgressions against me would
lead me to believe that a king's ransom
should be mine

Yet.... there is nothing to define
the cost of all that was lost
thru time.

As I watch the second hand of my life unwind
into a distorted hourglass, as I try not to drown
in the sands of my past...

I see that my errors were great
and mistakes were vast...

I realize that no one can control the hand they were given
the key is we just have to keep moving...
we have to keep on living

Even when we feel like a situation
makes us wanna raise hell
I have learned..that not to get burned
means I have to make "light" of myself.

I have to understand my inner workings
and learn how to be moved by the truth
and not mere flattery.
For flattery may get us where we want to be
but the truth always seems to put us where we
need to be....

Walking safely somewhere in between the lines
of, I feel fucked up....but

I know everything is gonna be fine
Because everyone has times they suffer,
so I know no one wants to hear me whine

So I....

will walk this road called life
with my chin up...
boots tied...
and my hidden hopes and dreams
tied in a sack with a flask at...
my side.

And I'm sure I will pass you somewhere
on that road,or you may pass me by.
I promise that when I see you, no sad stories
will I impart or angry words will I spit out,
nor will I greet you with the heat from my past

I will simply smile, and welcome you and share
a drink from my flask....
to warm your soul along its journey...
because in this life...

I am owed...nothing.
