Family Dinner
I wonder if I could rip my lower jaw off
If I tilted my head up,
tucking my thumb under my chin
and with my fingers in the base of my mouth
pull it off with all my might.
I decide I shouldn't
as I feel
it would spoil this very grand, family dinner.
A rare dinner out as my family is small,
Only zoning in when I feel It is my turn
to chip in on the current, pointless discussion.
Instead I take a step back and analyse every
family member's relationship with one another.
I see a lot of hate, frustration
and misunderstandings.
I see the memories of family who should be here.
But most of all, I see love,
troublingly desperate love,
in these dark times,
leaving this lovely dinner tinted with sorrow.
My mind wanders as I reconsider the jaw stunt.
Ripping it off in a disgusting shower
Of fresh blood and torn flesh.
I decide I shouldn't
as I feel
it would spoil this very grand, family dinner.
