requiem for frailty
I will die to you this day
commend my spirit to far flung sighs
that you may love more in metaphor
what you could not wrap yourself around
it is an injustice of carnal nature
to be helpless before affection
to rend what fingers cannot stitch
desperate of ourselves
afflicted with loss and needing
to be whole somehow in understanding
that which we will never hold
I reveled in your twinings
and did not hear you groan
humming lost notes
of your desperate violin
in the midst of moaning music
I was utterly lost in reaping
all that I had never sown
it is a frailty in my chest
I will not harm you anymore
and convince myself that once
you were only mine
and love is not a burden
of trees
and rocks
and earth
I will kiss you on the wind
where no heels are bruised
this is my loss
and my salvation
you fragile
beautiful thing
endlessly
I set you free
I set you free
I set you free
