Unbearably So
Alone in her room
the little girl lies tucked up in bed
The door is teased ajar
letting her see the light
shining in from the hallway
at the top of the stairs
They told her she will soon be
too old for Teddy bears
but tonight she cant let Teddy go
She clutches the bear
close to her ten year old chest
biting back tears
that wont stop coming
Why don't Mum and Dad
quit fighting
Why won't they kiss
and make up
Why can't we all
live together like we used to
Where's God
and why doesn't he help us
the way it says in the bible
Teddy didn't know the answer
to her first three questions
His eyes were just plastic
and his heart was made from
recycled mattresses
But he had stopped believing
in bullshit
a long ago time ago
and he had never
felt afraid
of the dark
