Eons of Time Lost in an Instant

 "How were we to know,"
they whispered,
"how it'd all turn about,
if we'd need an out?"
when they started to shout,
"Hallelujah, we're going home!"

Headed like men uphill,
they tossed in for a thrill,
the multimegaton bomb
the battles they'd won
the time and its location.
The place on the map
the current and weather
and dog in the lap
the faithful and loyal
all true to the leather,
all cried,
"Hallelujah, we're going home!"

Was it some notion
of perpetual motion,
the sun and the skin
and the cosmic led potion,
radically made
or just patrons gone mad?
Who is it says
if it's good or it's bad?
What was the reason
to be ever sad?
The best of the nation,
the minds and the muscle,
the busiest brains
and the 2 dollar hustle,
all of it played its slight
slide of hand
as onward they slid
as they worked on the land….
"Hallelujah, we're going home!"

Lately and last was the wave as it hit.
Bravely though fought,
so fiery bit,
teeth and the lash
and the lost moments gone,
ladled and sipped
and all gone along
the last one to quit,
"Be a dear on the phone
and tell them we're sorry
or warn them a tone,
for this was the end
of humanity's day.
Hallelujah, we're going home!
