Ode to a Desk
Poor four legged lover
my battle scars
have flecked you
the deepest shade of mud
You squat hunched
like a furry tongue
varnished oak swollen
struggling to breathe
beyond a crust
How I wish
we could have talked
for you to tell me
which verses you liked
or the flavor
of your favorite lines
But whether shy or dumb
or just plain foolish
you've ignored me for too long
so after today it's the laptop
and I shall not haunt you again
For as sure as tomorrow
crows a thunder of stairs
as certain as dusting is done
you'll go out the door
and be upside down
on a dumpster
in the rain
my battle scars
have flecked you
the deepest shade of mud
You squat hunched
like a furry tongue
varnished oak swollen
struggling to breathe
beyond a crust
How I wish
we could have talked
for you to tell me
which verses you liked
or the flavor
of your favorite lines
But whether shy or dumb
or just plain foolish
you've ignored me for too long
so after today it's the laptop
and I shall not haunt you again
For as sure as tomorrow
crows a thunder of stairs
as certain as dusting is done
you'll go out the door
and be upside down
on a dumpster
in the rain
